Abstract

This paper critically examines the relations between librarianship and social responsibility, it does so in a number of ways; first the dominance of information technology in library and information science; then examines the discussion between "pragmatism" versus social responsibility; finally the contribution reports the disciplinary growth of our profession as a social scientific discipline. In this way, the author argues for the integration of this different trends in librarianship, but without missing our social responsibility.
