El Áyax a la luz del culto heroico

Resumen

Este trabajo investiga las alusiones al culto heroico de Áyax en la tragedia de Sófocles. En Atenas era venerado como héroe epónimo y era considerado el ancestro de γένη atenienses importantes como los Eurisácidas y los Fílides. Pero Áyax no sólo no tuvo una muerte heroica sino que además se quitó la vida, luego de su locura e intento de matar a los jefes de la expedición troyana. Atenas venera, entonces, a un héroe que se caracterizó por su ἀρετή heroica pero también por su cólera y desmesura, lo que no condice con los ideales cívicos.

This paper analyze the references of the hero cult of Ajax in the Sophocles’s tragedy. In Athens was worshiped as eponymous hero and the ancestor of important γένη as the Eurysakidai and the Phyllidai. But Ajax not only has not a heroic dead but he murdered himself, after his madness and his intention of kill the leaders of the Trojan expedition. So Athens worships a hero had a heroic ἀρετή but also angry and lack of moderation, that isn’t in agreement with the civic ideal.
