Las identidades políticas en el Noroeste del Chubut en los años setenta: cuando las memorias políticas devienen políticas de la memoria

Abstract

We share some preliminary reflections on the constitution of political identities in the Lower Valley of Chubut, Argentina, from a perspective that accounts for historical and political representations within the framework of the recent Argentinean history; and also to the study of political memories of actors who have been involved in the political process. We will focus on the repercussions of the national context on the development of political life in the province of Chubut, considering that the Trelew Massacre took place in August 1972. 

Why choose this historical context as a turning point to start the analysis of the political? Our hypothesis is that it implied a hiatus in the reconfiguration of the political practices as they were developing in the local and regional space. 

What was the itinerary of these political memories and how do they regroup with the return of democracy? Is it possible to rescue them from the experience lived by the actors as political memories of the recent past? Is it possible to maintain that the memory of the massacre has become a political myth in our region?
