A review and critique of four graphemic models, with special attention to punctuation

The aim of this paper is to review and reflect on four graphemic models, as well as to study the role that punctuation plays in the latter. Every attempt has been made for this corpus to be varied and embrace different points of view regarding the connections between oral and written language. Accordingly, the autonomist theory of grammar of Jacques Anis has been chosen, along with the model of Nina Catach—which has been one of the most followed in medieval punctuation studies—, that of Elisa Ruiz—assigned to the phonologist trend—; as well as the theory that Nicolas Mazziotta develops in his study of a corpus of medieval punctuation. The selection of these four models is lies on the importance attributed in them to punctuation.
