Abstract

This article explores poetics and political resistance in the performances of La Ribot through an exploration of La Ribot’s formal and conceptual concerns with the body, embodiment and subjectivity. More specifically, La Ribot’s concern with sovereign power and resistance, language and silence, movement and stillness, repetition and difference, the choreographic commands and the contingencies generated by her per-formances, horizontality and verticality, gender and sexual ambivalence, or presence and absence. Through the work on these dimensions, La Ribot’s performances transform our perception and reshape the way we relate with ourselves and others, which can potentially lead to the capacity for political action in an unpredictable future.
