Abstract

Danzas Desobedientes (2022) is the first book of the Argentine and Latin American Dance Studies Group (GEDAL) of the University of Buenos Aires. The compilation challenges conventional canons by highlighting various dance themes, objects, and aesthetics beyond legitimizing discourses. It seeks to build a plural identity of dance workers and encourage southern productions that examine the South.

GEDAL specializes in critical dance studies, considering the body as a cultural product and research topic, intertwining practice and theory through various methodologies. Danzas Desobedientes(2022) delves into Argentine dances, engaging in hemispheric dialogues beyond hegemonic narratives, adopting specific perspectives and methodologies. It resists Eurocentric canons, advocates for specificity and embraces the perspectives of local dance, challenging marginalization. This first book contributes to the larger project of decolonizing dance studies.
