Abstract

An ethnographic approach to interethnic relationships in cities of Patagonia is presented in this article. Taking under consideration voices of mapuche organisations on recent debates about the complex urban mapuche situation, the aim of this approach is to study identity dynamics in city peripheral neighbourhoods. This article is based on my thesis of Licenciatura, which explored identity rearticulations in a peripheral neighbourhood of Bariloche city that congregates migrants who have mainly arrived from rural areas, as a rule, mapuche people of Río Negro and Neuquén, and also from Chile . The intention here is to focus specifically on urban ethnic identity rearticulations applying an ethnographic and discourse centred approach.
