Mujeres, ciencia y tecnología en las universidades: ¿la excepción a la regla?

Abstract

This article presents preliminary results of an ongoing investigation focused on the analysis of gender meanings that interweave in higher education institutions where exact sciences and technological disciplines careers are taught. With this purpose, based on a study in cases, I retrieve testimonies of (women) students of Engineering around the processes of identity construction that they transit during their university education, in order to reconstruct the expectations of academic performance and future professional insertion that are assigned to them. The results reveal those situations that are invisible, or even naturalized, in the daily life of the educational trajectory in which rely ideas about how the subjects formed in these areas are and should be. Finally, I outline some of the main challenges in this field, giving a critical and at the same time a propositional look at educational initiatives and policies aimed at reducing the gap and achieving gender equity.
